ABOUT 70 athletes will be campaigning against HIV/Aids on December 11 by taking part in the Duathlon organised by the Brunei Darussalam Aids Council (BDAC).

The 5km run followed by 50km cycling race had its 'dry run' yesterday to ensure the programme's success. Liyana Imani Abdul Latif, Vice-President of the BDAC said the organisation had met its expected goal in terms of participation.

She also urged the public to encourage and support the organisation joining the 5km 'fun run'. "There is a fee of $2 for joining the fun run, and all proceeds would go for our future awareness programmes and workshops," she said.

Also extending support to the organisation for the duathlon are the Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation and the Brunei Darussalam Athletics Association.

The duathlon, to be held next Sunday, would start at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium. It would start with a 5km run covering Jalan Pusat Persidangan, the Ministry of Health and Jalan Menteri Besar. From there, the participants would go past the Ministry of Communications, the Immigration Department and to Jalan Kebangsaan.

Going straight past the Ministry of Finance, the racers would then need to turn down Jalan Pusat Da'wah, cross the Pusat Da'wah building and around the roundabout near the Hockey Stadium into Jalan Sejahtera 1. From there, they would head straight back to the stadium and hop onto their bikes. The Bike route would take them all the way to the Jerudong Park Diamond Roundabout, then back to the Stadium, where they would complete the race on foot through the earlier route.
